DANBURY -- Abraham Ng'etich didn't expect to be at his best for Sunday's Fifth Annual Stratton Faxon Greater Danbury Half Marathon at Rogers Park.

The New Rochelle, N.Y., resident -- despite not arriving in Danbury until 11 p.m., Saturday -- cruised to an easy 20-second victory over second-place Joseph Ekuom, completing the 13.1-mile course in 1:08.33.
Eric Blake, a New Britain resident and assistant coach for the Central Connecticut State University men's cross country team, was the top Connecticut runner, finishing third with a time of 1:09.33.

CT NORTHWEST REGIONAL SPECIAL OLYMPIC GAMES

A SPECIAL DAY FOR DANBURY

Danbury, CT - Saturday, June 9th was a Special Day for the City of Danbury and Danbury High School as they played host to the Northwest Regional Special Olympics for the first time.  450 Special Olympians and 600 volunteers converged on Danbury High School’s Athletic complex for the track and field events on a damp and gloomy morning.  But the weather didn't dampen their spirits.

New Milford’s Stephen Homa couldn't stop grinning after he got the day started by lighting the Olympic Torch, located at the center of the Danbury Stadium field.  “I touched the torch right to the wick” Homa, 31 said.  “It was very exciting.”
