HVSports Breakfast to Kick Off Nutmeg State Games

DANBURY – More than 20 companies or individuals have already stepped up to sponsor a $250 table for the July 24 Housatonic Valley Sports Organizing Committee’s charity breakfast, kicking off The Nutmeg State Games.

University of Connecticut football coach Randy Edsall will be the guest speaker.

The event formally begins 10 days of the city’s hosting of The 20th annual Nutmeg State Games, which are expected to bring more than 6,000 Connecticut youngsters to compete in 25 Olympics-style sports.

HVSports is looking for a total of 40 companies or individuals to sponsor a $250 table of ten guests for breakfast.  Please contact Jody Rajcula at rajculaj@wcsu.edu, Wayne Shepperd at wshepperd12@aol.com, or Maura Keenan mkeenan@ithaca.edu to reserve a table. 

The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Portuguese Cultural Center, 65 Sand Pit Road in Danbury.

Edsall is the third winningest coach in school history and stands at an impressive 41-31 (.569) in the school’s first six Division I-A seasons.

On that same day, Thursday, July 24, Demonstration Sports & Family Night will take place on the CityCenter Green at 6:15 p.m.

Four Nutmeg State competitions will be demonstrated, including archery (Bill Hall and students), tae kwon do (Master Song’s Martial Arts School) and fencing (Tom Ciccarone’s Candlewood Fencing team).  In addition, a speedskating demonstration will also take place inside the Danbury Arena at 6:30 p.m.

Free ice cream will be distributed to all youngsters attending.  Hot Tamales (New Orleans jazz) will entertain the audience throughout the evening.
