Time to register for Nutmeg State Games
DANBURY – The July 11 – August 3 Nutmeg State Games are approaching rapidly.
Coaches or parents interested in registering teams or individual participants can do so at either www.nutmegstategames.org or by calling 860-528-4588. The Games include youngsters ages 8-18. Registration closes on Monday, July 7th.
Games will take place on almost all city athletic facilities

Figure skating attracts 167 participants – best since 2004
DANBURY – Early indicators suggest participation in this year’s Nutmeg State Games will be very strong.
Registration for the July 12 figure skating competition at Danbury Arena has closed with 167 state residents having signed up. This represents the highest number of skaters in The Games since 2004.
“This is the first time that figure skating has ever been held anywhere but West Hartford and candidly we were concerned as to whether or not we would get a viable turnout in Danbury,” said Nutmeg State Games Executive Director Bill Mudano.

HVSports breakfast to kick off Nutmeg State Games
DANBURY – More than 20 companies or individuals have already stepped up to sponsor a $250 table for the July 24 Housatonic Valley Sports Organizing Committee’s charity breakfast, kicking off The Nutmeg State Games.
University of Connecticut football coach Randy Edsall will be the guest speaker.
The event formally begins 10 days of the city’s hosting of The 20th annual Nutmeg State Games, which are expected to bring more than 6,000 Connecticut youngsters to compete in 25 Olympics-style sports.

Olympic Style Torch Run
DANBURY – The Torch Run, a symbolic shifting of the home city of The Nutmeg State Games, will take place Saturday, July 26 with approximately 20 Danbury-area people carrying the torch from the Newtown Police Department to the Danbury High School stadium.
Fairfield County Sports Commission representatives will bring the torch from Bridgeport – its host for the past three years - to Newtown where they will pass it to the Danbury representatives.
Each of the Danbury runners will then take a half-mile turn, culminating with last year’s Athlete of the Year taking the final lap around the DHS track.
